Richard Calvin Humphries, 92, of 111 North River Drive, Jarvisburg, NC, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2013. Mr. Humphries was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late George and Lula Russell Humphries. Retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he had also been employed for many years with Newbern Brothers Farm. A veteran, he had served in the US Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Davidson, and four brothers, Willard, Kenny, Hazel, and William Humphries. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Wilma Sawyer Humphries; a daughter, Marlene Newbern and husband H.D., III; a son, Don Humphries and wife Judy; all of Jarvisburg; five grandchildren, H.D. Newbern, IV and wife Kim, Scott Newbern, Richard Clayton Newbern and wife Dana, Amber Humphries, and Donny Humphries and wife Erica; 10 great-grandchildren, Sydney, Tristan, Rachael, and Benelli Newbern, Jacob and Hailey Credle, Ayanna and Amaya Brickhouse, and McKenzie and Keaton Humphries; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Humphries of Virginia Beach, VA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Hebron United Methodist Church, 7411 Caratoke Highway, Jarvisburg, by the Rev. Dawne Hollis. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City, with Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, handling arrangements.
