Louise Smith Sanderlin, 72, of 128 East Camp Perry Road, Hertford, NC, died Monday, October 28, 2013 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Mrs. Sanderlin was born in Norfolk, VA and was the daughter of the late Frederick Smith and Velma Virginia Ives Edwards. The retired co-owner and operator of Buddy's Supermarket in Norfolk, she was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, where she was actively involved in mission work and youth ministry, and also volunteered in several areas of work with the American Cancer Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Jackson C. Edwards, her daughter, Diane Louise Boeger, and by her sister, Beatrice M. Hurt. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Edward J. "Buddy" Sanderlin, Sr.; a daughter, Barbara Young and husband Charles of Virginia Beach; three sons, Edward J. Sanderlin, Jr. and wife Jackie of Wake Forest, David K. Sanderlin and wife Amy of Richmond, VA and William H. "Bill" Sanderlin of Hertford; a sister, Lois V. Nemie of Williamsburg, VA; a brother, Robert A. "Bobby" Smith of Hertford; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Corinth Baptist Church by Dr. David Turner and the Rev. Lee Johnson. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.
