Marguerite Pell Sawyer

Marguerite Pell Sawyer, 83, of 1314 Shawboro Road, Shawboro, NC, died Saturday, November 9, 2013 in her home. Mrs. Sawyer was born in Norfolk, VA and was the daughter of the late William Milton and Ida Mae Kight Pell. A retired postmaster with the United States Postal Service, she was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Shawboro Ruritan Club, and the Elizabeth City Chapter #44 of The Order of the Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Coston Sawyer, and her brother, William Milton Pell, Jr. Surviving are her son, Baxter Sawyer and wife Kay of Shawboro; a sister, Hilda Forehand of Currituck; a sister-in-law, June Pell of Poplar Branch; two nieces, Mary Jo and Peggy; and a nephew, Mike. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Stevens and Dr. Robert Phipps. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City, with Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the cemetery following the graveside service on Tuesday.
