Cassie Winslow Spruill

Cassie Winslow Spruill, 87, of 857 Beech Springs Road, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mrs. Spruill was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Velum and Emma Perry Winslow. A retired home health nurse's assistant, she later spent countless hours as a volunteer at Hertford Grammar School. She was a life-long member of Piney Woods Friends Meeting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Spruill, an infant daughter, Diane Spruill, brothers, Oras and Otha Winslow, and infant brother, Valentine Winslow. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Godfrey and husband Terry of Belvidere; a son, Dick Spruill of Hertford; and two grandsons, Benjamin Godfrey and wife Dare of Raleigh and Brandon Godfrey and wife Mary Allen of Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Piney Woods Friends Meeting by Pastor Frank Carter. A private burial will follow in the Winslow Family Cemetery near the home with Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the meeting house immediately following the service, and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Piney Woods Friends Meeting, in care of Victor Spivey, 199 Louis Spivey Road, Belvidere, NC 27919, and is to be designated for the Music Committee.
