Dorothy Gayle McDonald

Dorothy Gayle McDonald, 84, of 806 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC, died Friday, November 29, 2013 in her home. Mrs. McDonald was born in Gressitt, VA and was the daughter of the late Russell, Sr. and Lena Gayle. Retired from the Harvey Point Defense Testing Facility, she was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and had been active in The Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert McDonald, Sr. and a sister Mildred Whitfield. Surviving are her daughters, Pam Stevenson and husband Gary of Fuquay-Varina and Denise Partin and husband Mike of Edenton; her son, Johnny McDonald, Jr. of Harbinger; her sister, Catherine "Bookie" Lanier of Nashville; her brother, Russell Gayle, Jr. of Franklin; four grandchildren, Luke Stevenson and wife Lindsay, Angela Malik and husband Ash, Carolina Gayle McDonald, and Michael Partin and fiancé Meredith Magnuson; and three great-grandchildren, Nathan Stevenson, Lydia Stevenson, and Ari Malik. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church by the Rev. John H. Bonner, III. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.
