Larry Robert Parks, 55, of 279 Tuggie Eure Road, Eure, NC, was called home to glory on Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. Mr. Parks was born in Portsmouth, VA and was the son of Gertrude Beere Parks of Elizabeth City and the late Elbert Curtis Parks, Jr. Employed with Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 29 years, he was very active with Troop 200 of the Boy Scouts of America where he had served as scout master for five years, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow for four years. He was a US Navy veteran. In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife of 30 years, Rebecca Crawford Parks; two daughters, Pamela Holley and husband Crandall of Eure and Melinda DeWitt and husband David of Gates; a son, Elbert Parks and wife Jessica of Germany; four sisters, Linda Cahill and husband Casey of Eure, Jackie Williams and husband Gerald of Sunbury, Ann Cox and husband Jim of Chesapeake, VA, and Rosemary Harrell of Elizabeth City; a brother, Curtis Parks and wife Pearl of Elizabeth City; seven grandchildren, Tray, Victoria, Marcus, Michael, Alec, Megan, and Isabella; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Rev. Billy Presley. Burial with military honors will follow in the Parks Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to any chapter of the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
