A. Leo Ambrose

Arel Leo Ambrose, 88, of 221 W. Market Street, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Brian Center Health & Rehabilitaion Center. Mr. Ambrose was born in Washington County, NC and was the last surviving of 13 children born to the late Joseph Jordan and Mary Magdalene Haire Ambrose. Retired from the Harvey Point Defense Testing Facility, he was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Central Germany Campaign, and having fought in the Battle of the Bulge. A member of Hertford Baptist Church, as long as his health permitted, he was active and faithful in his attendance and in the workings of the church. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Marjorie Phelps Ambrose; and his daughters, Peggy Sharon Ambrose and Nannette Dawn Ambrose, all of Hertford; and many extended family members and friends. A memorial service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. H. Gene Boyce and the Rev. Gregory Clark. Private inurnment will follow in the family columbarium in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
