Edmond Milteer Parker

Edmond Milteer Parker, 79, of 917 West Street North, Ahoskie, NC, died Friday, December 13, 2013 in his home. Mr. Parker was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Vivian Milteer and Roxie Parker. A retired Administrative Specialist with the North Carolina National Guard, having worked in both the Ahoskie and Williamston offices, he had served in the United States Army and later the Army Reserves, both with the 82nd and 11th Airborne Divisions, and retired with more than 36 years of service, achieving the rank of First Sergeant. Memberships included the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie and its Fellowship Sunday School Class, lifetime membership in the Disabled American Veterans, longtime membership in the American Legion, and charter membership in the National Airborne Association. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Jean Freeman Parker; a daughter, Beverly P. Baker and husband Woody of the Solomon Islands and Melbourne, Australia, and their daughters, Carrie and Margo, both of Melbourne; a son, Mark M. Parker of Memphis, TN and his children, daughter Larkin, and son Forrest, both of Sewanee, TN; and a sister, Carolyn Parker Gough of Roduco. A private inurnment will be held on the family plot at Cool Spring Baptist Church in the Eure community of Gates County. A memorial service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Ahoskie by the Rev. Dr. Daniel E. Glaze, the Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom, and the Rev. Billy P. Presley. Military honors will be accorded in the church. Friends may visit with family beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Monday in the church social hall, and all other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, PO Box 649, Ahoskie, NC 27910 and is to be designated for use in Missions.
