Gladys Virginia Bunch Stallings, 97, of 813 Johnston Street, Edenton, NC, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Stallings was born September 2, 1916, in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Mark and Vera Bass Bunch. A homemaker, she was the oldest member of Edenton Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mary Bethany Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Thurston Stallings, Sr.; her daughter, Carolyn Faye Stallings Tetterton and husband Gilbert; brothers, John, Frank, Percy, Earl, and Ervin Bunch; and sisters, Dixie Harrell, Emma White, Lessie Bunch, and Grace Pettys. Surviving are her son, The Rev. Dr. Dallas T. Stallings, Jr., and wife Donna of Durham; two sisters, Elsie Gregory of Hertford and Mary Evans of Edenton; three grandchildren, Jacqueline Ann Tetterton and William Ray Tetterton, both of Wilson, and Dr. Dallas T. "Trip" Stallings, III and wife Mebane Rash of Raleigh; two great-grandsons, James Hutchison Whitman and Wellington Rabb Whitman of Raleigh; a sister-in-law, Callie Bassout of Norfolk, VA; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and other times at the residence.
