Roy Linwood Harrell, Sr., 83, of 200 South Oakum Street, Edenton, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Monday, January 6, 2014. Mr. Harrell was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late John Loney, Sr. and Lottie Martin Harrell. Retired from the NC Employment Security Commission after nearly 20 years of employment, he was a member of First Christian Church and the Edward G. Bond Post 40 of the American Legion, had served on the Edenton Town Council, had served as Mayor of Edenton for 19 years, and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Florence Lassiter and Hazel Rogerson Hall; brothers, Alexander Martin, Haywood Harrell, and J.L. Harrell, Jr. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Syble Cayton Harrell; two daughters, Gail Bain of Edenton and Tracy Hooper of Stumpy Point; a son, Lin Harrell and wife Vickie of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren, Jayme Bain Boyce, Richard Bain, Ashley Bain, Caitlin Harrell, Cody Hooper and Carrie Ulmer; and five great-grandchildren, Brylee Boyce, Noah Copeland, Gavin Linwood Soto, Jaylan Ulmer, and Robin Hooper. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, by the Revs. Thomas Biggs and Steve Davenport. Military honors will be accorded in the chapel prior to a private burial in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
