Susie Mae Ward Hudgins

Susie Mae Ward Hudgins, 96, of 1872 NC 37 South, Hobbsville, NC, died Friday, January 10, 2014 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mrs. Hudgins was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Millard Alonza and Mary Lillian Pruden Ward. A homemaker, she was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where she had taught children's Sunday School and was active in the United Methodist Women, and had been a member of the Gatesville Senior Citizens and the Gatesville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Boykin "Buzz" Hudgins, Sr., by her sister, Daphne Yon, and by her brother, Henry Allen Ward. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Hudgins (Robert Bass) of Hobbsville; three sons, E.B. Hudgins, Jr. (Carolyn) of Eure, and Jim Hudgins (Nan) and David Hudgins (Jennie), all of Hobbsville; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Steve Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
