Myrtle Joyce Kight Cartwright, 87, of 141 Puzzletown Road, Belvidere, NC, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mrs. Cartwright was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Walter "Willie," Sr. and Orie Parker Kight. A homemaker, she attended Belvidere-Ryland Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Cartwright, Sr., a son, William A. Cartwright, Jr., a granddaughter, Tammy Kay Cartwright, a sister, Amy McDaniel, a brother, Larry Kight, and a daughter-in-law, Donna Cartwright. Surviving are her two daughters, Norma Turner and husband Jimmy of Belvidere and Louise Pitt of Gloucester, VA; five sons, Ray Cartwright and wife Linda of Belvidere, Jackie Cartwright and wife Paula of Hertford, James "Dump" Cartwright and wife Betty of Hobbsville, John Cartwright of Niles, OH, and Kevin Cartwright and wife Lori of Belvidere; two brothers, Willie, Jr. and J.C. Kight, both of Suffolk, VA; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by Minister Bobby Cohoon. A private burial will follow in the Cartwright Family Cemetery near the home. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
