Nilah Pittman Chobot

Nilah Pittman Chobot, 84, of 231 Halsey Bay Road, Hertford, NC, died Friday, January 24, 2014 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mrs. Chobot was born in Fayette County, WV and was the daughter of the late Wilbur Daniel and Shelvie Gracie Dexter Fox Pittman. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward Chobot, Jr.; seven sisters, Gladys Martin, Sherlie Neely, Violet Neely, Mary Pittman, Helen Howell, Shelvie Pittman and Anna Board; and five brothers, Ralph, Wilbur, Jr., Ray, Hurley, and Harry Pittman. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Edward Chobot; a daughter, Frances Chobot Bauman; three sons, John, Stephen, and Martin Chobot; two sisters, Evenda Lawhorn and Brenda Teaster; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kenneth Bauman, Niliah, Alexander, Edward, III, Erik, Nicholas, Anna, and Noah Chobot; and four great-grandchildren, Kiera, Ian, Nicholi, and Aria Chobot. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.
