Myrtle Wilkins Hare, 93, of 1133 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC, died Monday, January 27, 2014 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Hare was born in Gates County on March 30, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Samuel Maywood and Pennie Berryman Wilkins. A retired listing clerk with the Chowan County Tax Department, she was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, the WOM Audrey Gordon Group, and the Enterprise Home Demonstration Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward "Ed" Hare, her sister, Reba W. Hare, and by brothers, Otha and William Wilkins. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Morris and husband Sam; and a son, Marvin E. Hare and wife Cynthia, all of Edenton; five granddaughters, Lynn Duncan and husband Michael, Bonny Tynch and husband William, Susan Sykes and husband Chris, Betsy Mercer and husband Bill, and Jeanie Britt and husband Kris; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may greet the family in the church narthex immediately following the service, or all other times at Marvin and Cynthia's home, 1129 Virginia Road.
