William Freeland Elliott, 95, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2014. Mr. Elliott was born in Perquimans County on August 28, 1918, and was the son of the late William Clyde and Ocia Copeland Elliott. A retired farmer, he was a member, deacon, and former treasurer of Great Hope Baptist Church, a member of Woodmen of the World, a lifetime and charter member of Bear Swamp Hunt Club, an avid hunter, "dog man", and story teller. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Edna Baker Elliott; and by his brothers, Johnnie Clyde Elliott and Murray McMullan Elliott. Surviving are his daughter, Patricia E. Cameron of Virginia Beach, VA; his son, William Clyde "Billy" Elliott and wife Joyce of Hertford; three sisters, Elizabeth E. Winslow of Hertford, Mary E. Adams of Canaan, CT, and Thelma E. Zaluski of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, William Clyde Elliott, III and wife Janet, Paige E. Eure and husband Burt, Donna E. Stevens, and Lynn E. Woodell and husband Jimmy, all of Hertford, Christina C. Bergren and husband Alex, and Richard E. Cameron and wife Susan, all of Virginia Beach; 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at Billy and Joyce's home, 505 Great Hope Road, Hertford.
