Francis Joseph McDowell

Francis Joseph "Joe" McDowell, 86, of Hertford, NC, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and golfer, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 in his home with his family at his side. Mr. McDowell was born in Sharon, PA on November 12, 1927 and was the son of the late Francis S. and Margaret A. McDowell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jean Dolan and Rebecca C. Marion. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Ann M. McDowell; four children, Lorraine M. McDowell, Jennifer A. Gray, Frank J. McDowell, Jr. and Andrew J. McDowell; and three grandchildren, Hunter F. McDowell, Grace A. Gray and Mason G. McDowell. Family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Resurrection on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church, 1453 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
