John Ray Barnes

John Ray Barnes, 74, of 2240 Mail Route Road, Creswell, NC, died Monday, March 3, 2014 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mr. Barnes was born in Martin County on May 21, 1939 was the son of the late Stanley McKinney and Maria Ann Hassell Barnes. Retired from the maintenance dept. with NCDOT, he was a member of Philippi Church of Christ, and his hobbies included hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Barnes. Surviving are his wife, Glenda Woodley Barnes; a daughter, Susan Sexton and husband Eugene of Creswell; three sons, Johnny Barnes and wife Jolie of Plymouth, Kennard Barnes and wife Renee of Newport, and Herbert Barnes and wife Shelia of Creswell; a sister, Hilda Davidson and husband Claude of Virginia Beach; a sister-in-law, Patsy Barnes of Williamston; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Philippi Church of Christ by Pastors Buddy Swain and Glenn Brickhouse.
