Thelma Frances Layton Miller, 84, of 520 Saunders Road, Gates, NC, went to be with her Savior Friday, March 21, 2014. Mrs. Miller was born in Suffolk, VA on August 22, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Howard Benjamin, Sr. and Doris Inez Butler Layton. A homemaker, she was a member of the Ahoskie Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Coy Miller; sisters, Novella Day, Norma Clark, Elizabeth Hurdle, and Ramona Lassiter; and by a her brother, Howard B. Layton, Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Theresa M. Smith and Vickie L. Miller, both of Gates; two sons, Glenn Edward Miller and wife Robin of Surry, VA and Glenn Edward Miller, Jr. and wife Melissa of Portsmouth, VA; a sister, Virginia Becker of Florida; seven grandsons, Robert Ryan Parrish, Brandon Parrish, Adam Sherrill, Jimmie Miller, William Miller, Devon Fitzgerald and Trevor Miller; four granddaughters, Ashley Sherrill, Amanda Miller, Haley Miller and Cheyenne Miller, and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA, and will be officiated by Greg Casper, President of the Ahoskie Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
