Susan Barrow Skiles Rountree, 64, of 301 E. King Street, Edenton, NC, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 in her home. Mrs. Rountree was born on April 19, 1949 in Chowan County, and was the daughter of the late John Speight Skiles and Kathleen Barrow Skiles. Employed by Chowan County for over 30 years, she worked from 1979 to 1981 in the Tax Department, then was appointed Assistant Register of Deeds, serving in that capacity until 1995 when she began service as Register of Deeds, a position she held until her death. A faithful member of Edenton United Methodist Church, she was a member of its Adult Choir for nearly 40 years, and had served as the secretary of its Administrative Board since 1977. Professional affiliations included membership in the NC Register of Deeds Association, and service as Secretary/Treasurer of the Chowan County Democratic Party. Surviving are her husband of over 45 years, Ronald L. Rountree; her son, Chris Rountree and wife Julie, and their sons, Ethan and Nolan, of Roanoke Rapids; her brother, John T. "Bud" Skiles and wife Elizabeth of Stuart, FL; a nephew, Mike Skiles and wife Amanda; two nieces, Kerry Skiles, and Lisa Ward and husband Tommy; a sister-in-law, Treena Riddick; a special cousin and care-giver, Wanda Morris; and her life-long friend, Jackie Adams. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton United Methodist Church by the Rev. W. Christopher Aydlett, Jr. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
