Johnnie Patrick Bass, 69, of 258 Evans-Bass Road, Edenton, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2014, in his home surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Bass was born in Chowan County on April 30, 1944 and was the son of the late Lester Patrick and Faye Castelloe Bass. A retired warehouse foreman with Virginia Fork Produce, he was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church and its Carey Evans Sunday School Class. He also enjoyed membership in the Center Hill and Oak Grove Hunting Clubs, and had served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife of nearly 45 years, Betty Ann Bateman Bass; two daughters, Peggy J. Bass of Edenton and April Nordstrom and husband Kenny of Elizabeth City; two sons, Patrick Bass and wife April and David Bass and wife Laura; four sisters, Judy Hughes and husband Ed, Dianne Bass, Nola Jean Bass, and Peggy Weiss and husband Don; and a brother, Donald Bass and wife Mary Jo, all of Edenton. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Susan, Morgan, Maddox, and Thatcher Bass, and a fifth grandchild, Lydia Kenly Nordstrom, due to be born in August. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the social hall of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, and all other times at the residence.
