Elwanda Gibbs Outlaw, 91, of the 1500 block of Ring Road, Chesapeake, VA, and formerly of Edenton, NC, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Chesapeake Medical Center. Mrs. Outlaw was born in Hyde County, NC on July 22, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Huron and Lyda Spencer Gibbs. A retired sales clerk in the jewelry industry, she had worked with L.B. Rock Jewelry in Norfolk, VA, and Riddick Jewelers, and later Vaughan Jewelry & Gifts, both in Edenton. She was a member of Edenton Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Ralph W. Outlaw, four sisters, and two brothers. Surviving are three nieces, Patricia Jones and Carol Dominici and husband Charles, all of Chesapeake, and Joyce Daniels of Engelhard, NC; a nephew, Billy Gibbs of Engelhard; three great-nieces, six great-nephews, two great-great nieces, and five great-great-nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. David Brooks. Burial beside her beloved husband will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services.
