Franklin McCoy Parker, Sr., 76, formerly of Cypress Drive, Edenton, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mr. Parker was born in Gates County on May 20, 1937 and was the son of the late Monnie Will "Marvin" and Lila Mae Casper Parker. A retired Sergeant with the Edenton Police Dept. where he worked for 25 and a half years, he later served in the Auxiliary Unit of the Chowan County Sheriff's Dept., and in 1981 was awarded the Chowan County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. In times away from police duty, he worked as the owner and operator of Parker's Monument Sales, setting stones for families in cemeteries and churchyards all over eastern North Carolina. A faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, he had served as a Deacon, a Trustee, the church treasurer, in various church ministries, as a member of the Adult Choir, and had been an active worker in the Christian School located within the church. Surviving are his wife of over 57 years, Sue Harrell Parker; two daughters, Cindy Parker Spruill and husband Curtis of Tyner and Lisa Parker Ferraraccio and husband Brian of Edenton; his son, Franklin M. Parker, Jr. and wife Suzanne of Knightdale; five sisters, Dorothy Coats of Vanceboro, Lillie Hollowell of Tyner, Frances Brabble of Roanoke Rapids, and Myrtle Pierce and Louise Harmon, both of Ahoskie; his brother, Monnie Parker of Ahoskie; six grandchildren, Lin and Griff Parker, Casey and Tracey Griffin, and Megan and Kelli Ferraraccio; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Owens and Rosa Peralta; and another great-grandchild due to be born in September. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church by the Revs. Randy and Ashby Browder. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
