Olivia Byrd Spence

Olivia Mae Byrd Spence, 81, of 420 US 13 North, Eure, NC, passed away April 23, 2014 in Nansemond Point Convalescent Center, Suffolk, VA. Mrs. Spence was born in Northampton County on September 29, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Paul Judson and Ella Mae Martin Byrd. A retired caregiver for the elderly, she was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Alden "Pete" Spence, and by her sister, Myrtle Harrell. Surviving are her sons, Howard Alden Spence and wife Donna of Virginia Beach, Luther Paul Spence and Earl Lee Spence, both of Eure, and David Anthony Spence and wife Cathy of Winton; her brother, Harvey P. Byrd of Severn; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Revs. Billy Presley and Joe Futrell. Burial will follow in the Milwaukee Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the homeplace.
