Edward G. Britt, 78, formerly of Southampton, NY passed away in his Edenton, NC home on May 20, 2014. He was born January 13, 1936 to Margaret and Leo Britt in Brooklyn, NY. Buddy, as he was known, had five siblings, Ann, Bill, Kathy, Bonnie, and Joe. He graduated from Holy Trinity School and later was drafted by the US Navy. He served on the USS Shadwell and was honorably discharged. Ed married his sweetheart Barbara and started their family. They had five children, Beth, Meg, Joe, Tim and Amy. Ed worked for LILCO for 17 years, until he changed paths and started the Edward G. Britt Construction Company. He was an active participant in his community, he coached Little League Baseball and taught CCD classes at Our Lady of Poland Church. He served on the Southampton Town Planning Board and then as a Trustee for the Village of Southampton. His final post was as the Southampton Village Fire Commissioner. Ed retired in 2005 and moved with his wife Barbara to Edenton where he resided for the past nine years. He served on the board of the Chowan Golf & Country Club and was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. Ed and Barbara were married for 56 years. He is survived by his wife, his children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, and two sisters. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anne Catholic Church. Friends may join the family Sunday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for a time of visitation which will be immediately followed by a prayer service in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
