Norman William Castellani, 89, of West Gale Street, Edenton, and of South Virginia Dare Trail in Nags Head, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 in Nags Head. Norman was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 17, 1925, and was the son of the late William and Mary Saccani Castellani. A lifelong member of the American Legion and an Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 through 1946 in Patton's 3rd Army, 82nd Armored Division, US Calvary (Mech). He also was selected for the ASTP program in engineering. An Engineer graduate of Brooklyn Tech and Brooklyn College, he was the retired founder of Raceway Components, Inc. in Paterson, NJ, and the holder of seven US mechanical/electrical patents in the field of floor electrification for high rise construction - working with Joseph Loring & Assoc. on the World Trade Center, as well as other notable buildings. He was a member of the New York Building Congress, NECA, NEMA, and the recipient of numerous design awards from Architectural Record. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, and the mother of his three sons, Elaine Amari, and by his brother, John G. Castellani. Surviving are his wife, Evangelyn Knox Hughes Castellani; and three sons, Robert G. Castellani and wife Jean, Kevin P. Castellani and wife Kathleen, and Warren J. Castellani. The Castellani grandchildren are Joseph, Jason, Michelle Castellani Weatherby, Michael, Garrett, Justin and Zachary. Great-grandchildren are Noah Castellani, Christian Castellani and Logan Weatherby. Also surviving are the children of Norman and Lyn's lifelong friend, Carolista Fletcher Baum, who they together helped raise after her death - Carolista Ann-Cabell Baum Andersen and husband LtCol Bryan C. Andersen, USMC, Inglis Baum Walsh and husband Dr. Patrick Walsh, and W. Gibbs Baum. The grandchildren are Fletcher, Teagen, Ashlan, and Carolista C. Walsh. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31st, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Edenton NC, by The Rev. Jim Reed. Burial with military honors will follow in the church memorial garden. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Robert G. Castellani, Kevin P. Castellani, Warren J. Castellani, Dr. Patrick J. Walsh, W. Gibbs Baum, LtCol Bryan C. Andersen, USMC, and Joseph W. Castellani. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements. A time of visitation with the family will be held in the Parish House immediately following the service and will be hosted by the women of the Parish.
