David Lloyd Baker

David Lloyd Baker, 72, of 115 Nixon Road, Edenton, NC, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 in his home. Mr. Baker was born in Portsmouth, VA and was the son of the late George Lloyd and Palma Juanita Phelps Baker. A retired manager from Heilig-Meyers Furniture Company after 20 years of employment, he had also later retired from the NC Department of Corrections in Columbia, was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, Unanimity Masonic Lodge #7 in Edenton, and the Sudan Temple of the Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies in New Bern. He had served in the North Carolina National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley, and a brother, Carroll. Surviving are his wife of nearly 44 years, Jeanette Nixon Baker; a daughter, Heather Koon and husband Craig of Clayton; a son, Sterling Baker of Edenton; a sister, Diane Vasser of Franklin, VA; a grandson, Logan Koon; and many extended family members. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton and the Rev. Tracy Smith. A private inurnment will follow in the Nixon Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
