Murray Forehand Byrum, 91, of 102 Cypress Drive, Edenton, NC, died Friday, May 30, 2014 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville. Mr. Byrum was born in Chowan County on June 25, 1922 and was the son of the late Graham Murray and Novella Forehand Byrum. Retired from the Town of Edenton Electrical Dept., he was a member and deacon of Edenton Baptist Church, a member of the Edward G. Bond Post #40 of the American Legion, and a former Scout Master. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre and was a Purple Heart recipient. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Wilkins Byrum; his half-sister, Mary Alice Baker; his brother, Graham Byrum, and his twin brother, Murriel Byrum. Surviving are his son, Walter Graham Byrum and wife Teresa of Winterville; a brother, Robert Byrum and wife Nita of Washington, NC; four grandchildren, W. Graham Byrum, Jr. and wife Jeanna, Elizabeth Byrum Taylor and husband Ashley, Kevin Byrum and wife Leigh, and Corey Byrum; four great-grandchildren, Noah Wayne Byrum, AnaClare Joy Byrum, Grace Sandlin Taylor, Laura-Graham Eve Taylor; and by another great-grandchild due in July, Luke Graham Byrum. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks and the Rev. W. Graham Byrum, Jr. Burial with military honors will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
