Kevin Scott Jacobs, 31, formerly of Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC, and more recently of Kingsland, GA, died Friday, May 23, 2014. Kevin was born in Portsmouth, VA and was the son of Darlene Schaefer Cornwell of Mathews, VA and Ronald Lane Jacobs of Kingsland. A graduate of Perquimans County High School, he was currently employed as a commercial diver. A United States Marine Corps combat veteran having fought in two tours of duty, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom while being assigned to the India Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment based in Twentynine Palms, CA. He attended Brownstown Baptist Church in Brownstown, GA. Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Hubert James and June Jackson Schaefer, and paternal grandparents, Charon Southwell, Sr. and Gladys Lane Jacobs. Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Leland Scott Jacobs of Mathews; a sister, Amanda Jacobs; a brother, Bryan Jacobs, both of North Port, FL; his step-father, Eddie Cornwell; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by Pastor Nick Kahl. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
