The Reverend Larn Lee Underwood, 73, entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 22, 2014, from Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. The family and those who knew Reverend Underwood take joy in knowing where his faithful soul rests today. Born on July 5, 1940 in Phoenix, AZ, he was the son of the late Lee Coalman and Verbena Brown Underwood. Completing 22 years of honorable service with the United States Navy, he was also an ordained pastor in the Assembly of God faith, pioneering several churches across the country. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jenny Foster Underwood; his sister, Helen Strawn of Phoenix; two daughters, Lynn and husband Randy Lassiter, and Sharon and husband Dean Lane, all of Belvidere; six grandchildren, Jamie and husband Michael Salvatore, Randy, Jr. and wife Holly Lassiter, Hannah and husband Brandon Schoen, Adam and wife Hillary Lassiter, Courtney Lane, and Jordan Lane; and his great-grandchildren, Vincent, Carlie, and Carmine Salvatore, Jada and Jack Lassiter, and Olivia and Matthew Schoen. He took a personal interest in each member of his family, from his oldest daughter to his youngest great-grandchild. In accordance with his wishes, and based on his long and distinguished naval career, Reverend Underwood will be buried at sea, and those arrangements are under the care and direction of the United States Navy. A Service of Remembrance will be held Sunday, June 29th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Military Honors will be accorded in the chapel.
