Lillian Banks Sawyer

Lillian Banks Sawyer, 83, of 1705 Aydlett Circle, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, July 4, 2014 in Currituck House, Moyock. Mrs. Sawyer was born in Currituck County on March 29, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Tully Leo and Ruth Baker Banks. A homemaker, in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Fleetwood Sawyer, and by her brother, Daniel Leo "D.L." Banks. Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Twiddy and husband Gary of Coinjock and Phyllis Gryder and husband Mark of Chesapeake, VA; two sons, Fleetwood Sawyer of Elizabeth City and Phil Sawyer and wife Cheryl of Camden; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be officiated by the Pastor Boyce Porter. A private burial will follow in the Moyock Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and again immediately following the chapel service on Tuesday. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
