Robert Howell Spruill

Robert Howell Spruill, 84, of 18765 NC Hwy 32 North, Roper, NC, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in his home. Mr. Spruill was born in Perquimans County on January 3, 1930, and was the son of the late George Henderson and Annie Howell Spruill. Retired after 36 years with Weyerhaeuser Corp., he was a member and deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lane; and by brothers, George, Jr., William, and Irving Spruill; and by a great-granddaughter, Madeline. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Joyce Patrick Spruill; three daughters, Lynne Spruill Cardwell and husband Garry of Roper, Susan Spruill Morris of Wilmington, and Robin Spruill Howell and husband Mark of Raleigh; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Amanda, Eldon, Helmut, Zachary, Graham, Eli, and Cali; and seven great-grandchildren, Alivia, Daegan, Dawson, Owen, Clara, Joanna, and Ariana. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. J.N. Worsley. Burial with military honors will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
