Joseph George Jerome, Jr.

Joseph George Jerome, Jr., 78, of 151 Puddin Ridge Road, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City. Mr. Jerome was born in Clifton Forge, VA on May 8, 1936, and was the son of the late Joseph George, Sr. and Beryl Dove Jerome. Employed as an electrical engineer contractor with the United States Department of Defense, he had also owned and operated the former Hunger Haven Restaurant in Onancock, VA. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Monique Jerome. Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Nancy Downs Jerome; two daughters, Linda Jerome of Delaware and Lisa Cowgill of Charleston, SC; two sons, Joseph Jerome, III of Boonsboro, MD and Michael Jerome of Katy, TX. Also surviving are Nancy's two daughters, Teresa White of Hillsboro, MO and Traci Connors of Port St. Lucie, FL; and son, Gary Furr of Harpers Ferry, WV. Together Joseph and Nancy shared eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a very dear friend, Jo Helmstetter of Onancock. A memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment following in Davidsonville, MD. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
