Rosa Mae Keck Shaw

Rosa Mae Keck Shaw, 87, of Gatesville, NC, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 2, 2014. Mrs. Shaw was born September 26, 1926 in Wellsboro, PA and was the daughter of the late Harold and Florence Pope Keck. She was a resident of Virginia Beach, VA for 40 years and then of Gatesville where she lived the past 25 years. Prior to her marrying and caring for her seven children she worked as a nurse during World War II, and was later employed with the Virginia Beach School System for 17 years. An active participant in her community, she was a member of the Gates County Quilting Group and had led an active life tending to her orchard and garden until just recently. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Tracy Shaw, in 2012; her daughter, Linda; two sons, Blair and Bruce; a sister, Elsie; and a brother, Alan. Surviving are her sons, Barry, Barney, and Brian Shaw; a daughter, Katherine Johnson; a sister, Connie; a brother, Harold; and five half brothers and sisters; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed for her wit, energy, and words of wisdom. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville.
