C. Harvey Williams, Sr.

Charles Harvey Williams, Sr., 78, of 105 Barker Street, Edenton, NC, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 in Martin General Hospital, Williamston. Mr. Williams was born in Chowan County on September 13, 1935, and was the son of the late Atlas Butler and Delma Armstrong Williams. A member of the Town of Edenton Police Department for 36 years, he began his career as a patrolman, became a sergeant, was a captain for 21 years, and retired after serving as Chief of Police for eight years. After retiring, he worked part-time for 13 years with Edenton Motors. A member of Immanuel Baptist Church, he had served as a volunteer with the Edenton-Chowan Rescue Squad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert Williams, and by his sister, Shirley Harrell. Surviving are his wife of nearly 57 years, Mary Pierce Williams; their children, Julie Dyer, Charles Williams (Tonya), Carol Copeland (Paul), Cathy Cobb (Doug), and David Williams (Kristie); nine grandchildren, Charles "C.H." Williams, Elizabeth Williams, Brandon Williams, Caitlin Drake, Matthew Copeland (Robin), Heather Copeland, Leon Cobb, Atlas Cobb, and Kristen Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Ellie Copeland and Atlas Butler Cobb, Jr. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church by the Revs. Randy Browder and Ashby Browder. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and other times at the home of his son, Charles Williams, Jr., 204 Williamson Road, Edenton.
