Ronell Sawyer Devito

Ronell Sawyer DeVito, 98, formerly of Pritchard Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, August 15, 2014 in W.R. Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. Mrs. DeVito was born in Gilmerton, VA on May 15, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Betty Simpson Sawyer. A retired clerk from Virginia Dare Confectionary, she was a member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Aydlett and infant Mary DeVito, three sisters, Rose Rollinson, Elizabeth Kent and Hattie Mae Riggs, and a brother, Charlie Sawyer. Surviving are her daughter, Justine DeVito Albertson, a son, Michael DeVito, both of Elizabeth City; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Private services will be held. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
