Joyce Hope Brinkley White, 83, formerly of Corapeake, NC, and more recently of her daughter's home at 225 Timberlane Drive, Rocky Mount, NC, died peacefully at home Monday, August 18, 2014. Joyce was born in Gates County on November 28, 1930, the daughter of the late Channan Parrish, Sr. and Eunice Brinkley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Forrest David White, Sr.; son, David White (Beverly); son-in-law, Bill Howell; two sisters, Nell Ann Ward and Mary Belle Perry (Bill); brother, C.P. Brinkley, Jr. (Hyla); sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Stuber (Robelyn) and Martha White. A member of Eureka Baptist Church, Joyce loved her Lord and church family, especially the Ida K. Brinkley Sunday School Class, the Ruth Walden Group and the Lottie Fannie Group. She was a homemaker and loved to cook for her family, making the best potato salad, tomato pudding, and lemon pound cake. She loved working in her vegetable garden and yard. Joyce devoted all of her life caring for her family. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mabel Howell of Rocky Mount; brother, John Brinkley (Anita) of Sharpsburg; five grandsons, Mack (Debbie), Jason, Brandon, and Steven Howell and Jeffrey White; a great-grandson, Kye White (mother Nadia Meyers), brothers-in-law, Fred Ward of Virginia Beach, VA, Marvin P. White of Lake Wales, FL, and Gerald F. White (Sara) of Elizabeth City, NC; daughter's sister-in-law and Mrs. White's special caregiver, Linda Howell; David L. Cook and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Eureka Baptist Church, Corapeake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the social hall following the graveside service on Saturday, and all other times at the Rocky Mount residence.
