Ellen Godfrey Harris

Ellen Mae Godfrey Harris, 78, of 113 Smith Acres Road, Hertford, NC, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mrs. Harris was born in Norfolk, VA on March 24, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Jack Garland and Pearl Arrowsmith Godfrey. A homemaker, she attended Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and Anthony Downs. Surviving are her husband of 27 years, John Arthur Harris; two daughters, Connie E. Williams and husband Frank of Elizabeth City and Cynthia L. Elliott and husband Brent of Hertford; two step-sons, John M. Harris and wife Beverly of Virginia and Gary W. Harris and wife Melinda of South Carolina; a brother, Garland L. Godfrey and wife Jean of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren, Calvin and Clay Elliott, Bill and Hannah Williams, Gabrielle and Tyler Downs, and Barbie Curtiss; three step-grandchildren, Shane, Chelsey and Kiersten Harris; and four great-grandchildren, Grayson Levesque, Grant Curtiss, Kaitlyn Williams, and Kailey Downs. At her request, no services will be held. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
