James Edward "Ed" Woolwine, 77, of 1806 Arapahoe Trail, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City. Mr. Woolwine was born in Alderson, WV on June 12, 1937 and was the son of the late Woodrow W. Woolwine and Geneva Ward Woolwine Davis. A 1955 graduate of Norview High, he played both football and baseball during his high school years. Furthering his education at Old Dominion College (now ODU), Class of '64, he continued his interest in sports and pitched on the college baseball team. A retired magistrate with the Virginia State Supreme Court in Newport News, he was a member of "The River of Life, A Family of Faith" here in Edenton. Other enjoyments included his love of hunting and the outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Gonzales. Surviving are his wife and sweetheart of 48 years, Barbara Brouwer "Bobbi" Woolwine; his loving daughter, Mirenda W. Ryals and husband Dale of Clayton; two sisters, Barbara Lee Beshears and husband Richard of Grant, FL and JoAnn Arnold and husband Raymond, Sr. of Virginia Beach, VA; his brother-in-law, Gus Gonzales of Norfolk, VA; three grandchildren, Megan, Tiffany, and Joshua Ryals; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A Celebration of His Life service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by Pastor Warren Stackhouse. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. in preparation of services.
