Briar James Altman

Briar James Altman, 9, of 422 Yellow Hammer Road, Tyner, NC, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 in Edenton as the result of an automobile accident. Briar was born in Chowan County on July 29, 2005 and was a fourth grade student at D.F. Walker Elementary School. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and had a passion for playing baseball on both the "Cubs", and the All-Star teams with the Edenton-Chowan Recreation Dept. Surviving are his parents, his mother, Jenny Monds Altman and companion Michael "Duke" Binder, Jr. of Tyner; his father, Richard Anthony Altman of Edenton; six brothers, P.J. Yount, Daniel and Timothy Midgette, Mason Bateman, Austin Schwarm and Taylor Binder; maternal grandmother, Sylvia Monds of Tyner; maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Monds of Tyner; paternal grandmother, Mary Altman of Tyner; aunts and uncles, Kristie and Ricky Mize of Edenton, William and Ashlie Monds and Mark Altman, all of Tyner; five cousins, Ben, Graham, and Garrett Monds, and Meredith and Marcus Mize; and many extended family members and special friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Bill Monds; maternal great-grandparents, Preston Monds and William and Viola Pierce; paternal grandfather, Richard Altman, and paternal great-grandparents, Palmer and Ruby Tynch and James and Lilliana Altman. Graveside services will be held Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery by the Revs. Danny Gurganus and Don English. Friends may join the family at the residence.
