Kenton Nadal "Stoney" Humphries, 74, of 125 Hertford Beach Road, Hertford, NC, passed from this life to meet his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from Sentara Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mr. Humphries was born in Lexington, VA on April 17, 1940 and was the son of the late Malcolm Lee and Mildred Ramsey Humphries. Retired from the US Air Force after 22 years of dedicated service, he had also later been employed as a registered nurse. A Baptist and Pentecostal by faith, he referred to himself as a "Bapticostal" and attended Hertford Pentecostal Church, and had also enjoyed membership in the Masonic Lodge in Hampton, VA. An outdoorsman, he loved jogging and missed it greatly when he was not able to do so. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Joan Keller Humphries. Surviving are his wife of nine years, Alma Williams Speight Humphries; a son, Kenton Humphries, Jr. and wife Peggy of Elizabeth City; a daughter, Cathy Thompson and husband Terry of Jarvisburg; three step-sons, Herbert Speight and wife Gina of Wilmington, Allen Speight and wife Waynette of Coinjock, and Glenn Speight and wife Tonya of Hertford; two brothers, Gary Humphries and wife Nancy of Hampton, VA and Rick Humphries and wife Benita of Smithfield, VA; a sister, Joyce Rowe and husband Ernest of Hampton; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He was also "Pop" to Virginia Teague and Joy Shamblin. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. H. Gene Boyce. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service on Friday. Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA.
