Kenneth John Dunne, of West Church Street, Edenton, NC, died Friday, September 5, 2014 in his home where he was surrounded by his wife and sons. Mr. Dunne was born in Maspeth, NY and was the only son of the late Francis and Beatrice Keeler Dunne. He attended high school in Manhattan, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of the Holy Cross, and received his Master's degree in Business Management from Columbia University. A Navy veteran, he became a Supply Corp. officer and was stationed in Saipan in 1957. After his military service, he spent 12 years in management and planning for Mobil Oil, Westvaco Corp., and CBS Corp., rising to the Director of Business Development. In 1972 he and his wife began a successful Gourmet Foods business on Long Island, which they continued to operate for 25 years. Community involvement included his being elected Commissioner of the Jericho Water District where he introduced the concept of Environmental Stewardship of Resources which is common practice today. Relocating to Edenton in 1991, Mr. and Mrs. Dunne purchased and enjoyed operating the Granville Queen Inn for 13 years prior to retirement. They are members of St. Anne Catholic Church. With an appreciation for love of family and close friends, coupled with his keen intellect, interest in history, reading, conversation and ability to work with his hands, he was a true renaissance man who loved his life, was loved, and will be missed by many. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Catherine Frawley Dunne; two sons, Kenneth Dunne and wife Michelle of Waterford, VA and Patrick Dunne and wife Anne of Great Falls, VA; and six grandchildren, Nicole, Patrick, Colin, John, Kenneth, and Peter Dunne. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne Catholic Church by The Rev. Douglas Reed. Friends may join the family Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, or in the Parish Hall of the church immediately following the funeral, and all other times at the residence. Burial will be Friday, September 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
