Emilie White Barclift, 77, of 157 Cottonwood Drive, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Edenton. Mrs. Barclift was born in Perquimans County on February 23, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Claude Delton, Sr. and Frances Humphlett White. Retired after more than 30 years of teaching in elementary education, most of her career was spent at Perquimans County Central Grammar School in Winfall. A member of Epworth United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, she was also a member of the North Carolina Educators Association. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, C.D. Barclift; her daughter, Linda B. Bunch and husband Stanley of Edenton; her son, Greg C. Barclift of Hertford; her sister, Dorothy White Rascoe of Williamsburg, VA; her brother, C.D. White, Jr. of Winfall; and her grandson, Joseph Cullen Bunch. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, by the Rev. Ray Tavenner. A private burial will follow in the family plot at New Hope United Methodist Church. Friends may join the family at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Dept. of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, in care of Bette Butler, 764 Chapanoke Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
