Hilda Barclift Sawyer

Hilda Marie Barclift Sawyer, 72, formerly of Deep Creek Road, Hertford, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 in Waterbrooke Assisted Living, Elizabeth City. Ms. Sawyer was born in Perquimans County on September 19, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Heber and Annie Belle Carter Barclift. A retired site attendant from Waste Industries, she was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Sawyer, and by a brother, Billy Barclift. Surviving are her daughter, Anna Smith of Hertford; two sons, Hubert "Buddy" Harrell, Jr. and wife Deborah of Hertford and Joe Harrell and wife Peggy of Jeannette, PA; a brother, C.D. Barclift of Hertford; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in New Hope United Methodist Church by the Rev. C. Renee' Edwards, pastor. A private burial will follow in the Carter Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and all other times at the home of her daughter, 2168 New Hope Road, Hertford.
