Millard Lassie Umphlett

Millard Lassie Umphlett, 93, of 19 Depot Road, Eure, NC, died Saturday, September 20, 2014 in his home. Mr. Umphlett was born in Gates County on April 10, 1921 and was the son of the late Lee O. and Annie Perry Umphlett. A retired painter and carpenter, he was a member of Eure Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia and Ruby, and by brothers, Barton, Elliott, and Luther. Surviving are his wife of nearly 71 years, Shirley Brinkley Umphlett; his daughter, Patricia Williams of Seaford, VA; his son, Ronnie Umphlett of Eure; four grandchildren, Bob Williams and wife Jenni, Elizabeth Williams DeWitt and husband Ken, Anna Lee Umphlett, and Ronald Lee Umphlett, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Brendon J. DeWitt, Nathaniel John Williams, and Caroline Elizabeth Williams. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in Eure Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following services, and all other times at the residence. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the New Building Fund of Eure Baptist Church, P.O. Box 70, or to the Relay for Life, in care of Jenny Cowper, 893 NC Hwy 137, both in Eure, NC 27935.
