Evelyn Cullipher Wilkins

Evelyn Cullipher Wilkins, 75, of 3121 Rocky Hock Road, Edenton, NC, died Monday, September 29, 2014 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mrs. Wilkins was born in Martin County on February 17, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Johnny and Gladys Bell Cullipher. A retired telephone answering service operator, she was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church and its Ruth Harrell Circle, a member of Post 40 American Legion Auxiliary, and the Chowan County Shrinettes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Jean Peele, by brothers, Russell, Leo, and Leslie Cullipher, and by a son, Joseph K. Peele. Surviving are her husband of over 20 years, H. Garland Wilkins; her son, Terry Peele and wife Leslie of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Peele of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Peggy Haislip of Greenville and Mary Bell Edwards of Norfolk, VA; a brother, Bennie Cullipher of Chesapeake; and two granddaughters, Casey L. Peele and Dorothy Jean Peele. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton. Friends may join the family in the vestibule of the church immediately following the service. Following that time of fellowship, the burial will follow in the Nixon Family Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements. Flowers will be accepted, but Evelyn's request was that contributions in her memory be directed to the building fund of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, 113 Rocky Hock Church Road, Edenton, NC 27932.
