James Edwards "Bucko" Barger, 58, of Williamsburg, VA, died in the comfort of his home after a short battle with cancer, on Monday, October 20, 2014. Born in Mooresville, NC, on February 4, 1956, Jimmy spent his formative years in Edenton, NC. The son of Margaret Waugh Barger of Salisbury, NC, and the late Jacob Edwards Barger, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Becky Adams. Jimmy's love for the water took him to Manteo, NC, Jamestown, VA, and Wilmington, DE, where he served as Chief Mate on the Elizabeth II, Susan Constant, and the Kalmar Nyckel. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 35 years, Jean Parrish Barger; son, Jacob Yates Barger of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Sarah Jean Barger of Greenville, NC; sister, Terri Morgan (Jimmie) of Salisbury; and brother-in-law, Franklin Adams of Manteo. Also surviving are Jean's parents and family, Yates and Mary Julia Parrish of Edenton; Faye C. Kirshon (Joel), Linda P. White (Dale), Jane Parrish, and C.Y. Parrish, III; as well as a host of other relatives, friends, and shipmates. A Celebration of His Life will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
