Marvin T. Turner, Jr., 87, of Elizabeth City, NC passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Turner was born in Harnett County and was the son of the late Marvin T., Sr. and Roella Phillips Turner. A veteran, he honorably served in the United States Navy and later retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station as an aircraft inspector. His love of the water included sailing and racing hydroplanes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Turner. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Earlene; two daughters, Pamela A. DeVantier and husband Wayne and Teresa L. Kingsman and husband Kilton, Sr.; and a son, Barry L. Turner. His legacy includes four grandchildren, Kilton Kingsman, Jr. and wife Katie, Laura DeVantier, Lauren Kingsman, and Ross DeVantier; and one great-grandson, John Kingsman. He is also survived by three sisters, Marilyn Kay, Janet Spruill, and Sylvia Respess; as well as many nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held at a later date. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, Hertford, assisted the family with the arrangements.
