Eleanor Edna "Ellie" Yoerges, 84 years young, died Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Ellie was born in the Bronx, NY on August 8, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Fred Charles and Edna Wolfe Yoerges. After graduating school, she served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following retirement from Lucent Technologies, she and her longtime companion, Shirley Jean Twiddy, moved to Kitty Hawk where she lived for more than 20 years, spent time with her many friends, and volunteered with the Regional Medical Center and the Meals on Wheels organization. She truly loved life and lived it to the fullest. Surviving are her beloved brother, Fred Yoerges and wife Dorothy of Lady Lake, FL; nieces and nephews, Karenann Volinski (Mark), Roger Yoerges (Denise), Jennifer Lee Bryan (Bob), and Christopher Yoerges (Connie); eight grand nieces and nephews, and seven great-grand nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Shirley's sisters and Ellie's dear friends, Patsy Hughes (Ed) and Peggy Byrum (Wayland), all of Edenton. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services.
