Ruby Lee Webb Hemmings, 91, of Fox Trail, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, November 29, 2014, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law where she had made her residence for the last eight months. Mrs. Hemmings was born in Clinchville, VA on December 27, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Archie and Laura Heath Webb. A homemaker, at the age of 55 she received her high school equivalency requirements and her driver's license, and became a teacher's assistant in the public school system. While living in Portsmouth, VA, she was an active and faithful member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church, and since moving to Chowan County several years ago had become a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, its Bertha Dale Sunday School Class, and the Veterans of Spiritual Warfare Senior Choir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Hemmings. Surviving are her daughter, Gay H. Beaman and husband Robert of Edenton; four sons, Kenneth Wayne Hemmings and wife Lou Ellen, and Douglas Edward Hemmings, all of Portsmouth, Daniel Andrew Hemmings and wife Maria of Charlottesville, VA and Frederick Lee Hemmings and wife Susan of Chesapeake, VA; four sisters, Virginia Pearl Hemmings of Edenton, Toby Gail Wigfield of Churchville, VA, Opal Lorrain Sherrill of Tarboro, and Mary Phyllis Lamm of Yorktown, VA; a brother, Paul MacArthur Webb of St. Petersburg, FL; a nephew, Leon Hemmings and wife Rita of Edenton; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton. A graveside service will follow that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, VA.
