Robert Perry Hollowell, Sr., 90, of 2103 Center Hill Highway, Hertford, NC, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, following an acute illness. Mr. Hollowell was born in Perquimans County on November 9, 1924, and was the son of the late Nixon and Ever Lena Perry Hollowell. A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army during the post-war occupation of Japan, and then returned to Perquimans County to the family farm in the Bear Swamp community. He loved and remained active in farming until he was 85 years old. A faithful member and deacon of Great Hope Baptist Church, he served there in many capacities until his health would no longer allow it. A devoted and loving husband and father, he loved his family and his community dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers. Surviving are his adoring wife of 64 years, Eloise Riddick Hollowell; a son, Dr. Robert P. Hollowell, Jr. and his wife Donna, of Charlotte and Morrisville; three daughters, Joyce E. Hollowell of Raleigh, Benita F. Hollowell of Walstonburg, and Paige H. Winslow and her husband Randy, of Hillsborough; three grandchildren, Dr. Robert P. Hollowell, III and his wife, Dr. Lauren A. Hollowell of Boston, MA, Dr. Lauren E. Hollowell of Charlotte, and Randy Winslow, Jr. of Hillsborough; and many loving nieces, nephews, and neighbors. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, and will officiated by the Rev. George Wilmore, the Rev. Ray Hollowell, and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
